The Arohanui Hospice
Arohanui Hospice is a specialised palliative care service for patients and their families who live in the Manawatu, Horowhenua, Tararua and Marton/Taihape regions. Palliative care is the support of people who are suffering from an illness from which no cure can be anticipated. The aim of palliative care is to maximize the quality of the person’s life. This is achieved by coordinating and delivering a range of services in response to the needs of the person being cared for and their family. This care includes the person’s physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs, and the support of their family.
Specialised Palliative Care
- Our aim is to support patients with a terminal illness so they may gain the most from life
- We provide quality care and support for patients and family/whanau
- We accept dying as a normal process, and do not seek to hasten or postpone death
- We support patients to die with dignity, in their own home if that is what they wish
- We work actively with other services including general practices, resthomes, district nurses, Maori Health providers and other hospital services to meet the needs of patients and their family/whanau
The People We Care For
Arohanui Hospice is here to help anyone who is living with a terminal illness. Our services are mostly used by people living with advanced cancer, but we are also involved in the care of people in the advanced stages of other illnesses such as heart disease, respiratory disease, motor neurone diease and HIV/AIDS.
