The Arohanui Hospice Team
Based at Arohanui is our interdisciplinary team made up of a range of health professional, support staff and volunteers who work together to provide our service. All our clinical staff have specialist qualifications in their respective disciplines.

Palliative Care Co-ordinators
Reflecting our strong community focus, these specialist palliative care nurses work in the community to support patients and their families/whanau, working alongside other health professionals and care agencies. Each patient will be assigned their own Palliative Care Co-ordinator who will be responsible for co-ordinating their care as part of the interdisciplinary team.

Doctors
We have a team of doctors based at Arohanui who are all qualified as palliative care practitioners. They work primarily in the inpatient unit, but they also make home visits and hold out-patient clinics as required. They have an important role in providing guidance and support to other doctors and health professionals working in the community.
Day Stay Co-ordinator
Day Stay is held in a purpose built Room at the Inpatient Unit in Palmerston North and is open to all patients to give them a change of scene and their caregivers a rest. Send a message to the Day Stay Co-ordinator using our Mail Form.
Inpatient Nurses
For patients admitted to the inpatient unit, they provide specialist palliative care nursing. As they cover the unit over a 24hour period they are an important source of support and advice to patients, families and other health professionals during and outside normal working hours.

Palliative Care Social Worker
Personal and practical support to patients and families of both inpatients and those in the community is provided by the Family Support Team made up of a social worker and family support worker. They can provide information about and access to services or support that might be available and advise on eligibility and funding assistance to obtain those services. They can also provide a supportive and understanding, confidential relationship for you to discuss any personal concerns you might have as well as assistance to help you and your support people plan for this stage of your life journey. Pastoral Care Co-ordinator
Through our chaplain, Arohanui provides spiritual support for all patients and family/whanau under its care. Our chaplain works with the Arohanui interdisciplinary team, and in consultation with other spiritual care providers in the community, to offer spiritual care which assists patients and families to face creatively the challenges of terminal illness. Support Staff
At Arohanui we have a highly valued team of support staff who perform important tasks in the support of the clinical team. This includes reception, clinical typing, quality assurance, administrative support, computer support and providing good quality meals tailored to our patients’ needs.

Palliative Care Educator
The Palliative Care Nurse Educator works closely with our community partners to enhance their knowledge and confidence so that the palliative care needs of our patients are met using best practice. This role is designed to support and enhance the partnership Arohanui has with other health professionals and community agencies. Hospital-based Palliative Care Team
The hospital team, made up of two Palliative Care Nurses and medical support from Arohanui Hospice, is based at Palmerston North Hospital and available to visit any hospital patients who would benefit from palliative care advice. It maintains close professional ties with Arohanui Hospice. They can be contacted through the Hospital switchboard on (06) 356-9169.
Volunteers
Hospice Volunteers play an essential role, performing most of the domestic tasks at Arohanui Hospice, they also help in Day Stay and are available for other support roles. Volunteers contribute to the natural and friendly atmosphere we try to create at Arohanui.
