Welcome
Arohanui Hospice provides care for people in the Manawatu, Tararua, Horowhenua and Rangitikei/Taihape regions with life limiting illnesses and support for their families and whanau. At any one time we support up to 180 patients to live as constructively and creatively as they can in the time they have available. For patients the contact with Arohanui Hospice will generally start through the regular support and advice of our Palliative Care Coordinators - our specialist palliative care community nurses. Other contact may come through an out patients visit to see a palliative care doctor or a stay in the inpatient unit to improve distressing symptoms, helping recharge and plan for ways of returning home with more independence. This may also include involvement from social worker and chaplain and on discharge, include regular visits to Day Stay with the variety of activities and interests it provides.
At Arohanui Hospice we focus on the needs of the individual and on their families and whanau. The interdisciplinary team strives to offer dignity and comfort for the whole person including their physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. Close links are encouraged with other agencies involved in the patient's care such as their general practice team or the District Nurses in order to ensure that care given is comprehensive and as well coordinated as possible.
The service is open to all members of our community who have a life limiting illness if they have a need for symptom control, pain relief following diagnosis or treatment and for those nearing death. Referrals for the service are made by general practitioners or hospital consultants, though any person who has concerns about anyone with unmet palliative care need should feel free to contact us.
