Arohanui Hospice is a specialist palliative care service based in Palmerston North caring for people living with a life-limiting illness in the Manawatu, Horowhenua, Rangitikei and Tararua regions.

Director Operations and Community Relations

As Director Operations and Community Relations you will take on a pivotal position in ensuring the ongoing development and achievement of Arohanui Hospice.

Reporting directly to the CE and as a key member of the senior leadership management team the purpose of this role is to provide leadership in operational performance and the significant development and growth of the Hospice’s fundraising programmes, sponsorships and partnerships.

Key deliverables in this role include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of a robust business planning and reporting framework, with key performance indicators, integrating financial and operational plans
  • Creating and executing the fundraising and sponsorship strategy focussing on generating sustainable revenue streams
  • Developing and maintaining community relationships and strategic partnerships
  • Leading the development and implementation of key operational plans including the Hospice marketing and communications plan and risk management framework
  • Proactively leading a high performance team.
  • To be considered for this influential role you will need to demonstrate proven high level management experience with a comprehensive knowledge of business planning and reporting processes. You will bring a track record of successful fundraising and sponsorship management, revenue generation and the ability to develop productive strategic partnerships within the business and local community. Fundamental to your success in this position is experience in leading and developing an effective team.

    Human Resources and Payroll Officer

    Part time Position – 30 hours per week (0.75FTE)

    We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic HR generalist who has proven payroll experience to manage and coordinate our Human Resources function.
    This varied and challenging role will include the following generalist HR duties:

  • Recruitment and employment agreements
  • Payroll and remuneration
  • Development and maintenance of HR policies and procedures
  • Health and Safety administration
  • Provision of employment related advice and information
  • Applicants for the role must have:

  • Proven experience, at least three years, in a generalist HR role
  • Sound knowledge of employment legislation, particularly related to payroll
  • Proven payroll experience, preferably sole charge. IMS experience would be an advantage
  • Sound experience and knowledge of all Microsoft Office systems
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to successfully resolve issues and problems
  • High degree of professionalism and confidentiality

    Operations & Planning Analyst

    Full time Permanent Position

    Reporting to the Director Operations and Community Relations, this exciting new position has a principle role in developing, implementing and overseeing a comprehensive business operations and performance reporting framework for the Hospice. This includes:

  • Aligning, building and oversight of operational planning and reporting frameworks
  • Risk management identification, alignment, monitoring, reporting and general oversight
  • Internal and external audit preparation, action and reporting
  • Business analysis and alignment of financial and non financial information for reporting
  • Development and oversight of corporate policies and procedures
  • Corporate document preparation and management
  • In addition, this role will manage all grant applications including identifying relevant national and local grant opportunities and preparing grant applications.
    Applicants must be able to demonstrate:

  • A proven understanding, knowledge and experience of operational planning and business reporting cycles and processes
  • A proven ability to develop and establish workable systems and processes
  • A well established knowledge of operational business performance standards and measures (including financial) and how they are applied

    Receptionist/Administrator

    Four part time roles
    As part of our dedication to continually improving the Hospice services, we have developed a new reception structure so that our reception desk is covered 9 hours a day, 7 days a week and we are seeking professional staff with proven skills to work in these key customer service roles.

    The four part time roles will work on a roster of 4.5 hours a day (either 8.30am to 1 pm or 1pm to 5.30 pm, for a total of 7 shifts a fortnight (total hours per fortnight = 31.5 hours). The shifts will encompass a mix of weekends and weekdays and both mornings and afternoons for all four roles. However, successful staff must also be flexible and able to pick up additional shifts whenever necessary.

    The duties of the role are primarily focused on:

  • Reception duties – providing a professional greeting and assistance to all visitors to the Hospice
  • Telephony – answering incoming calls, redirecting calls, taking messages
  • Administration – opening and actioning incoming mail, actioning accounts, arranging building maintenance, word processing, filing, providing administrative assistance to clinical, fundraising and other staff as and when required.
  • All applicants must be able to demonstrate superior skills and experience in administrative/reception duties and tasks, have strong time management/work organisation skills and have an excellent customer service ethic.

    Volunteer Co-ordinator

    Part time Position – 20 hours per week (0.5FTE)
    We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated person with excellent organisational abilities and outstanding people skills to coordinate our highly-valued team of volunteers at Arohanui Hospice.

    This varied and challenging role will involve the recruitment, orientation, training, and ongoing support of volunteers. You will also manage and review volunteer policies and procedures, have oversight of volunteer rosters, organise volunteer events and most importantly, ensure the continuation of the close relationship volunteers have with Arohanui Hospice.

    Applicants for the role must have:

  • Proven experience in staff management; recruitment, selection, supervision
  • Proven ability to organise work tidily, follow processes, maintain records and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal, written and listening
  • Experience and/or understanding of working in the voluntary sector

    Registrar – Palliative Care

    Arohanui Hospice currently has an advanced training vacancy for a Registrar – Palliative Care. The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary team committed to integrated Palliative Care. All aspects of required training are available in Palmerston North with the Regional Cancer Treatment Service operating out of the adjacent Palmerston North Hospital.

    This position is suitable for advanced training in Palliative Medicine according to the prescription of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or the Chapter of Palliative Medicine. Therefore FRACP or FAChPM candidates are welcome to apply. Part time training may be possible.

    The Registrar will rotate through appropriate areas of Palliative Care:

  • Community
  • Inpatient Hospice
  • Hospital
  • other relevant disciplines, eg: Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology etc.
  • The Registrar will also assist in supporting the Palliative Care Hospital based team
    (Midcentral DHB).

    Applicants must:

  • Hold FRACP [Pt1& 2] and intend to train in Palliative Medicine or hold a suitable Fellowship, eg: FRNZCGP or FRACGP, for entry to Chapter of Palliative Medicine training
  • Be eligible to work in New Zealand as a Medical Practitioner
  • Hold a current annual practising certificate
  • Hold a current driving licence
