Palliative Care Social Worker

Permanent, Part-Time (0.6 FTE)

Arohanui Hospice provides specialist palliative care for patients living with life limiting illness and support for their families/whānau; throughout Manawatu, Rangitikei, Tararua, Horowhenua and Otaki.

We are seeking a Social Worker to join our interdisciplinary team. This position is important to Arohanui Hospice, and provides a unique opportunity for a Social Work professional with at least intermediate level experience, and who wishes to work and grow in our specialist environment.

You will need to have the following:

  • Be a registered Social Worker with a current annual practicing certificate
  • Be a member of ANZASW with a current Certificate of Competency
  • Have a minimum five (5) years social work experience, preferably within a health related setting
  • Have undertaken or have a commitment to post graduate education in related fields such as counseling, palliative care, or grief and loss
  • Have a commitment to own professional development
  • Have undertaken, or have a commitment to training at the DHB as an InterRai assessor
  • Have a good knowledge of the services offered by agencies such as WINZ, Supportlinks (NASC), and other
  • statutory and non‐government organisations and be able to access these
  • Have a strong commitment to working in an interdisciplinary team
  • Have a readiness to work collaboratively and responsibly under the guidance/mentorship of the Palliative Care Social Work Coordinator
  • Be fully computer and technology literate with practical experience in patient management software and MS Office software
  • Demonstrate with ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Have excellent time management skills
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the understanding of Hospice philosophy
  • Be prepared to travel within the region serviced by Arohanui Hospice
  • Experience with end of life care, grief and loss, counselling, and clinical case work an advantage.

We seek an experienced Health Professional to join our team. The Director Clinical Services is accountable for leading, developing and implementing the strategies and operational performance frameworks of the Clinical Services team within Arohanui Hospice. This role ensures that the vision and values of Arohanui Hospice are achieved through the Clinical Team and Services where a high standard of care is provided to patients and their family/whanau, and the hospice philosophy of palliative care within the interdisciplinary team and in the community is maintained and respected.

We invite you to apply for this role. You will need to have the following –

o Registered health professional with well-developed and current clinical skills and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience delivering at a senior level in a medium sized health organisation

o Proven record and experience leading and managing a team of clinical and other specialists to deliver a high level of service within a specialist health area

o Proven Leadership and Staff management experience

o Demonstrated understanding of the Registered Nurse scope of practice

o Comprehensive knowledge and application of operational business processes; the ability to contribute to strategy development, planning and reporting, compliance, budget and risk management.

o Proven ability to build and manage relationships across a broad spectrum

o Excellent communication skills, with good verbal and written ability

o Ability to successfully resolve issues and problem solve to successful outcomes

o Ability to cope under pressure and multi task

o Proven ability to use a good level of initiative, with ability to make and deliver difficult decisions as necessary

o High degree of professionalism and confidentiality

o Computer literate to Intermediate level with practical experience of MS Office software

o Demonstrated understanding of Hospice Philosophy

o Demonstrated understanding and application of the concept and the need for cultural safety.

o Knowledge of modern Health & Safety practices within a medical/clinical context
