Counselling and Support
Social workers at Arohanui Hospice are available to assist anyone (patient or support person) plan for this stage of your life journey.
They are there for all those who are affected in some way by their life-limiting illness, be they the patient themselves, young children, aging parents, or other family members.
The social work role is flexible and responsive to individual situations. There might be concerns about how someone will manage at home, and a need to know what help is available. There might be concerns about the financing of care or how the medical situation might be affecting the patient and their family.
The social workers are here to provide information about what services or support is available and can help provide access to and liaison with support services. They can also advise on financial eligibility and funding assistance to obtain those services. This service can also provide the patient and their family with a supportive and understanding, confidential relationship to discuss any personal matters that may be of concern.
Palliative Care Social Workers can help access:
A chaplain provides pastoral support to patients and their families/whānau in the inpatient unit and in the community.
