Giving at Christmas means many things: To the staff at Medlab Central, it means a donation to Arohanui Hospice.
For more than 20 years, Medlab Central has given to the hospice an internally agreed amount, on behalf of its 196 staff members.
Pathologist Dr Bruce van den Heever says the choice to give to the hospice reflects the wonderful work the hospice does for the community.
“Well, why wouldn’t we? Our work here… much of it is diagnosing cancers. The hospice is part of what we do. Years ago, we picked the hospice and the rescue helicopter service as the two most worthy causes that relate to what we do.”
Medlab Central is based in the Central North Island (Te Ika-a-Māui). If you live in Palmerston North, Whanganui, Hawkes Bay or Gisborne, its staff and laboratories have analysed and diagnosed your family’s medical samples. If you’ve had a blood test, a smear test, a biopsy or any other medical sample taken, Medlab’s expertise has helped you.
“So we in turn help the hospice,” Bruce says.
