Established in 1991, Arohanui Hospice in Palmerston North provides specialist and palliative care for patients living with life limiting illnesses while supporting their families and whanau. We are situated in Palmerston North and service the Manawatu, Tararua, Horowhenua and Rangitikei/Taihape regions.

Our name ‘Arohanui’ means ‘with much love’ and we strive to demonstrate that every day, in every way, with our heartfelt and excellent care.  Our care is provided free of charge but costs a considerable amount to provide. Just over half of our funding comes from Te Whatu Ora contract, the rest – over 3.5 million – needs to be fundraised and we are able to do this through the generous support of local businesses and individuals who understand the importance of our service in the community.

 We are looking for an experienced Senior Manager for our Levin store.  This is the lead position in the shop, assisted by the Shop Manager 2IC, Retail Assistant, Storeman/Driver and supported by a wonderful team of dedicated volunteers.

We are looking for someone with a background in retail, a passion for sales and customer service, a good business head and strong administrative skills, who also has the ability to manage and collaborate with our enthusiastic and dedicated team.

You must be a people person, while this is a retail store, our Kaupapa is to raise funds to support the delivery specialist palliative care in our region and in the case of the shops more specifically in the community where we reside.

You will be:

  • Responsible for the strategic planning and ongoing monitoring of store optimization
  • Delivering budgets and engaging with shop targets
  • Driving communication across a large team of employees and volunteers
  • Building positive relationships with your community
  • Managing and empowering employees and volunteers

You will have:

  • Retail and staff management experience
  • Familiarity with relevant technology; MS Office and POS systems
  • Cash handling and reconciliation experience is essential
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • High degree of initiative, ability to plan, innovate and communicate
  • Be a collaborator – With the other shops, your team and your community.

 The work hours for this role are 30 hours per week over 4 days per week as rostered, plus additional on call cover for leave as required.  It is essential that the appointee to this position is able to work flexibly and co-operatively, so if you have all or most of these skills we would like to hear from you. The proposed per hourly rate is $29 phr
