Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
We have a permanent, full time opportunity to join our Arohanui Hospice team as Kaiāwhina. The key role of Kaiāwhina is to offer cultural support, advocacy and awhi to patients and their whānau who come into the Arohanui Hospice service. The Kaiāwhina will also be responsible for developing and delivering education on tikanga guidelines and practice, in the context of palliative care.
Mōu | About You
To succeed, you will be comfortable supporting patients and their whānau through palliative and end-of-life care. You will also need to be highly motivated and innovative with strong communication, relationship, education, and administrative skills. Additionally, you will have a deep understanding of Te Ao Māori, including the ability to build and maintain partnerships with local Hapū, Iwi, and kaupapa Māori health services. A commitment to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi in all aspects of your mahi is essential.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
Essential:
- A recognised health, mātauranga Māori or related tertiary qualification
- In-depth knowledge of Te Ao Māori and tikanga Māori
- Knowledge of Māori health providers and social services agencies within Horowhenua, Tararua, Manawatū, Ōtaki and Rangitikei regions
- Sound understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its practical application in the Health/Social sector
- Education experience
- Experience in working autonomously and as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Emotional maturity and resilience
- Current full New Zealand driver’s licence
- Established networks within Māori communities
Desirable:
- Proficient written and spoken Te Reo Māori or a commitment to a journey towards this
- Understanding of palliative care or community-based health service delivery
- Understanding of traditional Te Ao Māori healing, including but not limited to, Rongoā Māori and Mirimiri
