Workshop: ‘Understand me when I’m dying’
Date/Time: Friday 28th April – 9:00 – 16:00
Cost: $50
Venue: Christian Community Church, 54 Pascal Street, Palmerston North
Exploring spiritual and cultural diversity, this workshop provides an overview and aims to raise awareness and understanding of the increasing spiritual and cultural diversity that exists within our community. This understanding will enhance our collective ability to offer the most appropriate palliative care.
Buddhist, Maori, Hindu, Muslim and Pacifika representatives will share their perspectives, illuminating how knowledge of their beliefs and traditions can enhance our palliative care approach for people in their communities.
This workshop is open to all those working in the health and pastoral care sectors. Facilitated by George Dempster, Spiritual Care Coordinator, Arohanui Hospice.
Workshop: ‘Pain and Symptom Management in Palliative Care Study Day’
Due to unforeseen circumstances we are unable to run this study day. It is likely to be rescheduled for later in 2023.

This study day will provide participants with a comprehensive, holistic approach to the management of pain and other symptoms for people receiving palliative care. There will be the opportunity for discussion and questions as we look at the range of symptoms experienced by people.
This workshop is open to all registered health professionals working with people with a palliative need. Programme details and speakers will be available in due course.
Workshop: ‘A Palliative Approach to Parkinson’s Disease’ in conjunction with Elder Health
Date/Time: Friday 25th August, 8:30am – 4pm
Cost: $50
Venue: Education Centre, Gate 12, Palmerston North Hospital, Ruahine Street, Palmerston North
This workshop is open to all health professionals working with people with a palliative need.
Topics to be covered will include:
- Differentiating between Parkinson’s Disease and similar presentations
- Symptom management in advanced Parkinson’s Disease
- Medication approaches as Parkinson’s Disease progresses
- A palliative approach to Parkinson’s Disease
- Panel discussion covering spiritual, psycho/social and the lived experience of Parkinson’s Disease
