It is not every day that four organisations come together to repaint multiple buildings in kind. Earlier this year, thanks to the incredible generosity of local businesses and community-minded individuals, our Palmerston North, Feilding, and Ōtaki Hospice Shops received a remarkable makeover.
What began as a simple phone call to Gary Dyer Painters and Decorators Limited quickly grew into something much bigger. Recognising an opportunity to support Hospice, Gary, a Master Painter, reached out to his network and Dave from Team dh jumped on board. As a pair they brought a group of local businesses together to support the project.
“It was an easy decision to support Hospice” Gary said. "There wouldn’t be many families in our community who haven’t experienced the support Hospice provides.”
Gary and his team completed a full repaint of the Feilding shop frontage, while Resene kindly donated the paint for all sites. John Turkington Limited generously supported the project by organising the traffic management and council compliance requirements, expertly coordinated by Baden, who was fantastic to work with throughout. Dave and the team from Team dh carried out the painting and refresh work needed at our Palmerston North and Ōtaki shops, giving both locations a fresh new look. Together, these organisations transformed what was intended to be a minor tidy-up into a complete exterior refresh.
Originally, we had planned to update signage and carry out a few paint touch ups. Thanks to this extraordinary support, our shops now have a fresh, welcoming look that reflects the important role they play in our community. The generosity of everyone involved has also freed up resources that can now be invested in improving the in-store experience for our customers and volunteers.
We are already seeing the benefits, with a noticeable increase in customers visiting our shops since the work was completed.
Arohanui Hospice CE Clare Randall said the success of the project was a testament to the power of community collaboration.
“This project is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when local businesses work together for the benefit of their community. Our Hospice Shops play an important role in raising funds for specialist palliative care, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed their time, expertise and resources to give them such a significant refresh.”
Michelle Connor, Director of the Arohanui Hospice Foundation, reflected on the experience of working with those involved.
“Everyone involved was incredibly generous and so easy to work with. What began as a relatively small project became a complete exterior refresh across three of our shops -far beyond what we could have achieved on our own. The result looks fantastic, and their support means we can now direct resources towards further improvements for our customers and volunteers.”
By sharing their expertise, time, and resources, these local businesses have helped us create brighter, more inviting Hospice Shops while ensuring we can continue focusing on what we do best: providing great shopping experiences that help raise vital funds for specialist palliative care in our community.
